What Is Gold Leaf and Gilding
Gold Leaf is a sheet (leaf) of very thin gold. An encyclopedic explanation is, gold leaf is a suitable sized piece of gold hammered to into a thin sheet by a process known as gold beating. The end product is usually used for the process of applying gold leaf to something, and called gilding.
Gilding Variants
There are many variants with gilding that include the use of different metal other than gold, e.g., silver, varying coloured metal leaf other than gold, heat treated metal leaf producing an oyster like effect, and other coloured material in leaf form, that are mainly used in Art Gilding. The Slideshow page contains photos of interior gilding projects, glass gilding, gilded castings, and other pieces.
